2022 Hi-Target – LIESMARS Internship Program Held Successfully in Wuhan, China

The 2022 Hi-Target – State Key Laboratory of Information Engineering in Surveying, Mapping and Remote Sensing, Wuhan University (LIESMARS) Internship Program was held successfully on 9th June in Wuhan, China. It was the fifth time that Hi-Target and LIESMARS jointly hosted the program, with over 10 outstanding international students from Pakistan, Thailand and Egypt joint, among them were postgraduate and PhD students in surveying, mapping, remote sensing or related majors.

LIESMARS Before getting started, the students were guided around the Hi-Cloud (the subsidiary of Hi-Target Group located in Wuhan) showroom for a closer view of the Hi-Target’s latest innovations, and experienced the features and advantages of LIDAR and GNSS RTK technology and solutions.

LIESMARS To kick off the course, on behalf of Hi-Target, Cassie Yin from the marketing team welcomed and thanked all attendees for their participation, and gave a brief introduction of the lecturers and the course schedule for the day. Followed by a speech by Alex Li, the distribution director of the APAC region, who presented the company overview including the business layout and corporate culture, providing the students with a comprehensive and in-depth introduction to the Hi-Target group.

LIESMARS Afterward, Mr. Zheng, the head of the R&D department of Hi-Cloud, shared his experience and expertise in technology, applications and products of laser scanning themed on “3D Technology, Digitalizes the World”, explaining how the 3D affected the world and applied in all aspects among industries.

LIESMARS In addition, Lance Lan, the senior product manager of GNSS products from Hi-Target International, firstly brought the new generation IMU GNSS RTK with visual positioning technology, providing valuable information on the latest innovations, potentially leading to a promising solution upgrading the traditional way of staking out.

LIESMARS After the theory study, the technical engineer Liam Lin guided all students to learn the practical operation of hardware and software, enabling the students effectively acquire and master the basic principles and operating skills of the VRTK, as well as be proficient in operation independently. Almost all students were engaged in the practice moreover resulted in a good performance. By the end of the practice, we had conducted in-depth exchanges with the students, who shared their class experiences, values and attitudes which further enhanced active learning.

LIESMARS Eventually, the event came to a successful end with the exciting certificate awarding. All of the students who participated in the course were awarded a certificate for completing this training and course, and said that they had benefited a lot from the informative and fruitful event.

Year-end Party

The event provided a great opportunity to exchange ideas and share our latest development and achievements, as well as insights and prospects of the geospatial industry. Despite the COVID-19 spread across the whole world, we made this annual program realize as planned with the collective effort of all involved program members. We are looking forward to exploring future collaboration for network expansion and establishing closer cooperation with Wuhan University to promote continuous improvement and jointly create and strengthen a win-win situation.

The State Key Laboratory of Information Engineering in Surveying, Mapping and Remote Sensing (LIESMARS) is a global research center in the field of geo-spatial information science. LIESMARS is the main geo-spatial research center in Wuhan University, which itself is ranked No.1 in the Shanghai University Ranking in the field of remote sensing.

The State Key Laboratory of Information Engineering in Surveying, Mapping and Remote Sensing, Wuhan University (LIESMARS) is the first state key laboratory in the field of surveying and mapping in China. In 1989, the laboratory began construction on the basis of the National Key Disciplines of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing and Geodetic of Wuhan Technology University of Surveying and Mapping. It was formally approved by the State Development Planning Commission in the same year. In 1991, when the World Bank loan was launched, the laboratory became one of the seven tracking demonstration laboratories of the World Bank in China. In 1992, the State Bureau of Surveying and Mapping launched an open research fund, and the laboratory was officially opened to the outside world. In 1995, the laboratory passed the joint inspection organized by the State Education Commission, the State Planning Commission, and the State Bureau of Surveying and Mapping. In 2004, the laboratory was awarded the title of advanced collective and won the “Golden Bull Award” at the awarding ceremony for the 20th anniversary of the construction of the State Key Laboratory held by the Ministry of Science and Technology and other ministries and commissions. In evaluations conducted by the Ministry of Science and Technology, LIESMARS was consecutively ranked “Excellent” in 2000, 2005, 2010, and 2015.
